A UK-wide social innovation award developed with Vodafone to support early-stage ventures using tech and connectivity to improve health, education, the environment, and social mobility.
Vodafone Techstarter was a national social innovation award programme launched in 2019 in partnership with Vodafone and the Vodafone Foundation.
The initiative aimed to uncover and support early-stage ventures developing purpose-driven tech solutions that could improve lives across the UK addressing pressing challenges in health, education, environmental protection, and social mobility.
Over 270 applications were received, and eight standout winners, both for-profit and not-for-profit, were selected to receive funding and tailored support. Alongside financial backing, the winners accessed expert mentorship and commercial development guidance from Vodafone, Social Tech Trust, and key partners to help transform their ideas into market-ready solutions.
The ventures showcased a wide range of technologies, from AI and IoT to blockchain and mobile apps, demonstrating how connectivity and innovation can drive inclusive progress.
Winners included:
Not-for-profit: Code4000, Full Fact, The Children’s Society, and Wayfindr
For-profit: Alice SI, Blakbear, LettUs Grow, and Walk With Path
Two ventures, The Children’s Society and LettUs Grow, were also recognised with the Techstarter Champion’s Award, as voted by Vodafone employees.
Vodafone Techstarter demonstrated how collaborative innovation, backed by corporate commitment and purposeful strategy, can accelerate the development of technology that works for everyone.
